Signs and Wonders, a Religious Futures Weblog [sources][trends][about][discuss][archive][contact]

Welcome! At Signs and Wonders we sift through the World Wide Web looking for evidence of emerging religious futures.
Our mission is to provide our readers -- religious futurists, ministers, and just plain spiritual people -- with a guided tour of the web,
stopping wherever we see the future of faith unfolding before our eyes.
We update this site every three days or so, so come back again and join us on our next trip. If you want to comment on anything you read here or discuss religious futures in general, come over to our forum.

[socia] -- Your church: Art gallery of the Future?
by Cody Clark at 11:20 AM (EST)

The Ooze this month profiles artist Wayne Forte whose ministry is to bring art back into church and to give churchgoers a taste of sacred art. Check out his art.

editor -- Post-modern Christians assert that successful churches will learn to engage culture and the arts rather than just critique them. This artist's success is indicative of trend toward more "Smells and Bells" -- worship becoming more sensory and more experiential.

[feature] -- Conference on New Forms of Worship
by Cody Clark at 10:36 AM (EST)

Announced in this month's issue of The Ooze, Leonard Sweet is organizing a conference called "Soularize." The event will center on Worship and the Arts, allowing believers from numerous Southern California churches to experience God through the Arts and help practitioners explore emerging ministry trends and tools. The conference will explore a resurgence of the arts in new forms of worship including music, drama, painting, photography, and sculpture.

editor -- This is evidence of some savvy Christian Churches capitalizing on the "Smells and Bells" trend in spirituality -- part of the reason eastern and pagan spirituality is in vogue. Worship is becoming more about experience and less about thinking. Worshippers are increasingly connecting with God through all five senses.

[editor's note] -- We want to highlight your futures work.
by Cody Clark at 10:33 AM (EST)

Signs and Wonders is here to promote the field of religious futures on the Internet. There is a lot of religious material on the web, but very little of it is related to the futures field. If you have some work related to religious futures on the web, we'd love to direct some attention your way. Just point us to it and we'll check it out.
