Signs and Wonders, a Religious Futures Weblog [sources][trends][about][discuss][archive][contact]

Welcome! At Signs and Wonders we sift through the World Wide Web looking for evidence of emerging religious futures.
Our mission is to provide our readers -- religious futurists, ministers, and just plain spiritual people -- with a guided tour of the web,
stopping wherever we see the future of faith unfolding before our eyes.
We update this site every three days or so, so come back again and join us on our next trip. If you want to comment on anything you read here or discuss religious futures in general, come over to our forum.

[social] -- Existing Stereotypes about African-Americans Are Way Off the Mark--and Impede Reconciliation
by Cody Clark at 11:09 AM (EST)

A new study by the Barna Research Group shows that reconciliation and unification efforts are unlikely to succeed because of grossly inaccurate stereotypes about African-Americans. Among the discoveries were:

"African-Americans are very upbeat and optimistic about life; the Christian faith is not an add-on but the center of life for most black people; there is not a deep sense of community and solidarity among blacks; a key to impacting the African-American community is to work through their pastors."

[evironmental] - Northwest Religious Leaders Emphasize Environment
by Cody Clark at 10:58 AM (EST)

From BeliefNet -- Religious leaders in the Pacific Northwest are increasingly focusing their pulpits on local environmental issues. In specific, that controversial issue of the region's rivers. This support an existing trend of increasing environmental consciousness in mainstream religion.

"In churches and synagogues across the country, congregations are now regularly reminded the Bible and the Torah instruct mankind to care for the Earth and its creatures. In the Northwest, religious leaders are focusing on one of the region's most divisive environmental concerns: the Columbia River."
