Dr. Richard Kirby
The Golden Phoenix Manifesto
By Mimi Weiss and Richard Kirby, Oct 20, 1998

Insofar as the United Nations Year of the Older Person, 1999, provides an opportunity for Senior Citizens in all lands to enlarge their capacity for Profitable Age and Effective Senior Citizenship, we the undersigned commit to the raising of one million dollars by December 31, 1998 to support this United Nations Year of the Older Person, 1999, through the instrumentality of the Golden Phoenix movement. Of the $1 million, 80% will go to direct support of the causes listed below. The remainder will be applied to administrative costs, equipment, staff and development program.

Ours is the way of Profitable Age and Effective Senior Citizenship; it is a Way of Creativity, Love and Community.

We the members of the Golden Phoenix movement commit to the following disciplines of creativity, celebration, empowerment and profitable use of our time, energies, knowledge and connections:

A. To re-imagine and re-define our powers as citizens, counselors and wealth-creators in our local, regional, national and international settings; and to communicate a new philosophy of old age to all governments, facilitating the implementation of this new philosophy of old age in political, governmental and legal practicalities.

B. To study the situation of older persons everywhere in order to improve their situation and their contribution to world society.

C. To develop creativity training for older persons everywhere, and their teachers; to develop a philosophy of the arts suited to senior citizens worldwide. To stimulate actual festivals of the arts of new products of and about older years of human life, and the older persons, the senior citizens of and in the 21st century.

D. To study our own capacity for profitable employment and/or re-employment and to enlarge our own and each other's capacity for productive and fulfilling work for life.

E. To pool our knowledge and problem-solving capacities in regards to our financial problems and opportunities, and those of our loved ones and friends in all lands.

F. To mobilize the wisdom of the elder human being in all lands. To train emissaries of senior wisdom as speakers, teacher and empowerment agents of social change.

G. To pool our knowledge and problem-solving capacities in regards to our medical problems and opportunities, and those of our loved ones and friends in all lands; to change public and corporate policy about medical finance in business, government and society in such a way as to honor the needs of senior citizens more intelligently.

H. To pool our knowledge and problem-solving capacities in regards to our communication problems and opportunities, and those of our loved ones and friends in all lands; to train and equip Golden Phoenix emissaries to visit the lonely and sick, and ameliorate their situation.

I. To support the Golden Phoenix movement financially so it can accomplish its purposes.

J. To support the Golden Phoenix movement spiritually, through our religious and/or ethical activities, so it can accomplish its purposes.
