On Ecumenical Humanism as Movement for Earth Development
A. Ecumenical Humanism
In all our prior papers for the World Network of Religious Futurists we have dealt with various approaches to Humanism, both religious and secular. This includes the implicit content of the paper on Earth Evolution. We would now like to forgather all these approaches under one heading, Ecumenical Humanism, with the explicit proviso that it should extend to all major religions as well as secular humanism. It is our hope that in this way each such faith can contribute its most humane and nurturing elements to create a comity earth wide which would become a movement to save human life from early death and unacceptable pain and with time create an enlightenment and a cultural richness elevating and ennobling humanity as never before. This comity would in its united endeavor create steadfast friendship among people of all cultures and faiths and make of Earth a stronghold of peace, generativity and hope for the future of Mankind.
B. The Initial Ecumenical Humanist Plan of Action
We have arrived at the point of trying to make the Ecumenical Humanist Movement a reality. Here we come to an essential difficulty. All of us in the core group, the Ecumenical Humanist Circle, are disabled, hence unable to undertake the task of recruiting members to such an extensive cause. We are therefore seeking active and enterprising individuals with leadership qualities who would want to initiate and organize the Ecumenical Humanist Movement using the ideas we have put forth together with those of their own. If you are such an individual, alone or representing a group, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you. For our part we are prepared to do whatever we can in an advisory capacity and also write letters and flyers.
