Farewell Dr. Richard S. Kirby (1949-2009)
Sept 27, 2009
It is with profound sorrow that the World Network of Religious Futurists inform its membership that Dr. Richard S. Kirby, chaplain and former chairman of this network from 1993 to 2005, passed away September 24, 2009 in Edmonds, WA, at his home. He was only 60 years old, and died suddenly from what appears to have been a brain aneurysm. He was an inspiration to the religious futures movement. He is best known as the author of Temples of Tomorrow
(1993) with the late Earl Brewer, and also The Leadership of Civilization Building (2002) with Richard J. Spady. In 2005 he became the first President and Chaplain of Kepler University, an astronomical and
theological college. It is clear that all those
within WNRF were so very much affected by his friendship and vision and
worked on so many different projects to actualize these visions. Click here for details.

Redirecting Holocaust Memorialization Toward Humanization
Oct 5, 2009
Dr. Art Shostak, an American labor futurist, believes the future of religion in the next quarter century hinges in some unknowable way on the quality of Holocaust memorialization, as this involves Jews and non-Jews alike. He is concerned that over 60 years of memorialization emphasis only on the Horror has grievously under-valued the humanistic content hidden from sight (literally and figuratively) in the lives of millions of prisoners in over 2,000 concentration/labor camps.
